Algeria Edge DR Congo In Extra-Time To Reach AFCON 2025 Quarter-Finals

Late Drama Seals Algeria’s Progress
Algeria booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 after clinching a dramatic 1-0 extra-time victory over DR Congo in their Round of 16 clash. Substitute Adil Boulbina emerged as the hero, scoring a decisive late goal to end the Leopards’ resistance and send the Fennecs through to the last eight.
Tight And Tactical Contest
The knockout encounter was a tense and evenly balanced affair, with both teams showing defensive discipline and tactical awareness throughout regulation time. Algeria enjoyed more possession and territorial control, while DR Congo threatened on the counter, but clear-cut chances were limited. Neither side managed to find the breakthrough in 90 minutes, forcing the match into extra time.
Boulbina Breaks The Deadlock
As the contest appeared destined for penalties, Algeria finally found their moment in the dying stages of extra time. In the 119th minute, Adil Boulbina cut inside from the left and unleashed a powerful strike that beat the goalkeeper, sparking celebrations among the Algerian players and supporters.
Algeria March On
The victory underlined Algeria’s resilience and experience in knockout football, as they held their nerve in a high-pressure encounter. The Fennecs now advance to the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals, where they will look to build momentum in their pursuit of continental glory.
Heartbreak For DR Congo
DR Congo’s AFCON campaign came to a painful end despite a spirited performance. The Leopards defended bravely and pushed Algeria to the limit, but Boulbina’s late strike proved decisive, ending their hopes of progressing further in the tournament.
