Australia Retain the Ashes as Carey, Cummins Lead 82-Run Win in Adelaide

Australia retained the Ashes in emphatic fashion, sealing an 82-run victory over England in the third Test at Adelaide to take an unbeatable 3–0 lead in the five-match series. Powered by Alex Carey’s twin batting contributions and a ruthless bowling display led by Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon, the hosts once again proved why they remain near-invincible on home soil.

Set a daunting 435-run target, England showed flashes of resistance on the final day but ultimately fell short, bowled out for 352 despite spirited counterattacks from the middle and lower order. Australia, calm and clinical in crunch moments, closed the game with authority to wrap up the Ashes inside just 11 days.

Carey shines at home, bowlers finish the job
Australia’s dominance was built on their first-innings recovery after slipping to 94/4. Alex Carey, batting under pressure on his home ground, produced a magnificent century, steering Australia to 371. He followed it up with a crucial 72 in the second innings, forming a decisive partnership with Travis Head that stretched England beyond reach.

With the ball, Pat Cummins marked a sensational return from injury, picking up key wickets in both innings, while Nathan Lyon controlled the middle overs and etched his name higher on the all-time wicket-takers list.

Mitchell Starc added sharp pace and late-order runs, underlining Australia’s depth.
England fought hard in the chase. Harry Brook injected belief with aggressive strokeplay, while Will Jacks and Jamie Smith displayed composure under immense pressure.

However, untimely dismissals and Australia’s relentless fielding — highlighted by sharp catching in the slips — swung the game decisively back in the hosts’ favour.
Despite England’s late resistance, Australia never lost control, executing their plans with precision to seal both the Test and the Ashes.

Match Scorecard (3rd Test, Adelaide)
Australia – 1st Innings: 371
England – 1st Innings: 286
Australia – 2nd Innings: 349
England – 2nd Innings: 352
Result: Australia won by 82 runs
Series: Australia lead 3–0 (Ashes retained)
