Cluj-Napoca, Romania : In a landmark week for Indian table tennis, the U19 boys’ team and U15 girls’ team stamped their mark on the global stage at the ITTF World Youth Championships in Cluj-Napoca.

U19 Boys: Into the Final for the First Time

For the first time in our nation’s history, the Indian U19 boys’ team advanced to the final of the team event. According to reports, they defeated Chinese Taipei 3-2 in a pivotal semifinal match to secure their spot. This breakthrough ensures a medal and establishes a new benchmark for India’s youth table-tennis ambitions.

One of the players, reflecting on the moment, said:

> “We believed we could do it — reaching the final shows what we’re capable of.”

U15 Girls: Historic Team Bronze

Meanwhile, India’s U15 girls’ team celebrated another milestone — capturing a bronze medal in the team event. This is the first time India has achieved a podium finish in the team category at this level in the U15 age group. For the young women on the squad, the medal is proof that the pipeline for future senior success is strengthening.

Why It Matters

These results signal that India’s youth system in table tennis is not only producing individual talent but also competitive teams on the world stage.

The U19 boys’ final appearance could pave the way for more aggressive investment in team events, not just singles and doubles.

The U15 girls’ bronze demonstrates depth in the younger age bracket — a key factor for long-term sustainability.

Key Takeaways

India has broken new ground at the World Youth Championships with a U19 boys’ final appearance and a U15 girls’ team medal.
