Shourya Saini Shoots Silver in 50m Rifle 3-Positions at the 2025 Deaflympics

India’s Shourya Saini delivered a remarkable performance at the 2025 Summer Deaflympics, clinching the silver medal in the men’s 50m Rifle 3-Positions (3P) event. His medal added to India’s growing dominance in shooting at this edition of the Games.

Record-Breaking Qualification

Saini opened the event with a stunning qualification round, scoring 584 with 32 inner tens, a performance that shattered both the Deaf World Record and the Deaflympics qualification record.

Kneeling: 196

Prone: 194

Standing: 194

His consistency across all three positions set him up as a top contender heading into the finals.

Intense Final, Narrow Miss for Gold

In the finals, Saini compiled a total of 450.6, delivering strong series in kneeling and prone before entering a tense elimination phase in standing. Germany’s Matthias Erik Hess, however, surged ahead with a brilliant 459.8, setting a new Deaf World and Deaflympics finals record to claim gold.

Despite missing the top podium, Saini’s silver remains a standout achievement, demonstrating both his precision and composure on the world stage.

Boost to India’s Medal Tally

With Saini’s silver, India’s overall shooting tally at the Deaflympics rose to 13 medals, including:

4 Gold

6 Silver

3 Bronze

This continues India’s strong run in the sport, particularly in events for hearing-impaired athletes.

Latest Update

India added more medals in shooting later in the Games:

A gold in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event through Abhinav Deshwal and Pranjali Prashant Dhumal.

A bronze in 50m Rifle Prone courtesy of Kushagra Singh Rajawat.

These results further boosted India’s position on the medals table at Tokyo 2025.
