Bournemouth Star Antoine Semenyo Has £65m Release Clause for January Window

Premier League clubs on alert as in-form winger can be signed in first two weeks of winter window

Bournemouth Star Antoine Semenyo Has £65m Release Clause for January Window

Bournemouth’s Semenyo Available for £65m in January

Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo could be at the centre of major transfer activity this winter, with BBC Sport revealing a £65m release clause in his contract—active only during the first two weeks of the January 2026 window.

The 25-year-old Ghana international, who signed a new five-year deal at the Vitality Stadium on 1 July, had already attracted interest from Manchester United and Tottenham. The clause was included to ensure Bournemouth have enough time to secure a replacement if a top club triggers it.

In Red-Hot Form This Season

Semenyo has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in just 11 appearances under manager Andoni Iraola. Last season he reached double figures for the first time—11 league goals and 13 in all competitions—as Bournemouth secured an impressive ninth-place finish.

From Rejection to Rise

Born in London but eligible for Ghana through his father, Semenyo’s career began with setbacks—rejected by Arsenal, Tottenham and Millwall as a youngster. His fortunes changed after joining SGS College in Bristol under coach Dave Hockaday. Bristol City signed him in 2017, followed by loan spells at Bath, Newport and Sunderland. He broke into City’s first team in 2020-21 and earned a £10m move to Bournemouth in January 2023.

A Vital Player Amid Squad Changes

Bournemouth sold three key defenders—Illia Zabarnyi, Milos Kerkez and Dean Huijsen—for nearly £150m last summer and also lost goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to Arsenal. Amid these departures, keeping Semenyo has been crucial to their momentum this season.

With the winter window opening on 1 January and the clause active for only two weeks, Premier League giants now have a narrow but tempting opportunity to secure one of the league’s most exciting talents.
