Double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker will contest the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Athletes Committee elections for the 2026–2030 term. She has been nominated in the pistol category and is among 10 candidates competing for two elected positions.

Bhaker has outlined an athlete-centric vision aimed at strengthening shooting and creating a more supportive and sustainable environment for competitors worldwide.

Focus on Olympic Programme and Athlete Welfare

One of Bhaker’s key priorities is safeguarding the men’s 25-metre rapid fire pistol event and ensuring its long-term future in the Olympic programme. She also aims to push for improved prize money across ISSF World Cups.

Bhaker believes athletes should have an active role in shaping the future of their sport. Her agenda includes greater stability in competition rules, better financial opportunities and stronger athlete welfare systems.

She has also advocated for a secure and confidential grievance redressal mechanism to ensure timely and transparent resolution of athletes’ concerns.

Mental Health and Career Support Among Priorities

Recognising the importance of athletes’ well-being, Bhaker has proposed stronger mental health support through sports psychology programmes and designated quiet zones at ISSF events.

She also wants to promote greater financial security and career-transition opportunities to help shooters build sustainable lives after retirement from competitive sport.

To expand shooting’s global appeal, Bhaker plans to encourage the use of social media and digital platforms to connect the sport with new audiences.

ISSF Elections to Be Held in Doha

The elections for the 2026–2030 Athletes Committee will take place during the ISSF World Championship Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun in Doha.

The championship is scheduled from November 3 to 13, with candidates competing for representation in the committee.
