Sujeet Kalkal Wins Asian Games Gold After Dramatic Comeback
Sujeet Kalkal clinched the Asian Games gold medal in men’s 65kg wrestling on Friday, capping a dominant year with a dramatic victory over Tajikistan’s Abdulmazhid Kudiev in the final.
The 23-year-old Indian wrestler overturned a 2-9 deficit to score eight consecutive points and secure a sensational win. The triumph also followed a series of impressive performances against strong opponents, including an Olympic champion.
Sujeet Kalkal Overcomes Olympic Champion
Sujeet faced Japan’s Olympic champion Kotaro Kiyooka in a closely contested semifinal. The Indian prevailed 3-3 on criteria to book his place in the final.
Earlier, he began his campaign with a 13-3 victory by technical superiority over Afghanistan’s Sayed Omar Zazai.
He followed that performance with a commanding quarterfinal win against Iran’s Abbas Ebrahimzadehsavadkouhi, securing victory by technical superiority without conceding a point.
Dramatic Comeback Secures Asian Games Gold
The final against Kudiev proved to be Sujeet’s toughest test of the tournament. After falling seven points behind at 2-9, the Indian mounted a remarkable comeback, scoring eight points in a row to turn the contest around and claim the gold medal.
The victory marked Sujeet’s first Asian Games title and added another milestone to his impressive run in the men’s 65kg category.
