Gujarat Government Awards Elavenil Valarivan ₹1.33 Crore

The Gujarat government has awarded shooter Elavenil Valarivan financial assistance of ₹1.33 crore under its sports incentive schemes in recognition of her two silver medals at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi presented the award to the 27-year-old athlete in Gandhinagar on Monday.

Valarivan won silver medals in the women’s 10m air rifle individual and team events at the Asian Games.

Gujarat Government Recognises Asian Games Performance

According to a government release, Valarivan received assistance under the Khel Pratibha Puraskar Yojana, along with support through the Shaktidoot Scheme and Olympic Incentive Scheme.

The release also mentioned ₹74 lakh in assistance under schemes such as the District Level Sports School (DLSS) scheme and Khel Mahakumbh.

The Gujarat government reiterated its commitment to providing training facilities and support to athletes from the state as they prepare for international competitions.

Sanghavi said the success of athletes reflects not only their hard work but also the contribution of their parents, who support them throughout their sporting journey.

Elavenil Valarivan’s Sporting Journey

Valarivan, a resident of Maninagar in Ahmedabad, studied at the Sanskardham complex under the state government’s DLSS scheme.

She has been associated with the Shaktidoot Scheme since 2017-18 and currently holds an ‘A’ category position under the programme.

The Arjuna Award recipient represented India at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In 2019, she won a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, recording a score of 251.7.

Her two silver medals at the 2026 Asian Games added to her international achievements and brought recognition to Gujarat’s sporting ecosystem.
