Kazakhstan has unveiled its first National University of Sports, a modern institution aimed at training the next generation of sports professionals in emerging fields such as esports, artificial intelligence, sports medicine and sports management. The university marks a major step in the country’s efforts to integrate education, technology and high-performance sport under one umbrella.
The university offers a diverse range of academic programmes, including coaching and sports sciences, sports medicine and rehabilitation, sports journalism and management, AI and sports analytics, and esports. The curriculum has been designed to prepare students for the evolving demands of the global sports industry.
Speaking at the inauguration, Kazakhstan Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov said the institution reflects the country’s commitment to investing in human capital and building a world-class sports ecosystem through education, research and innovation.
A key feature of the university is its Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre, which combines modern diagnostics, treatment, rehabilitation and scientific research to support elite athletes. The institution also houses advanced research laboratories, digital learning facilities and state-of-the-art sports infrastructure.
The university has forged partnerships with leading international institutions to promote dual-degree programmes, student exchanges and joint research. Collaborations include academic institutions from Hungary, Italy and Switzerland, while a dedicated sports journalism media centre is being established in association with China’s Xinhua Daily Media Group and Nanjing Polytechnic Institute.
Beyond academics, the university will run initiatives promoting athlete welfare, first-aid training, women’s participation in sport and scholarships for talented students. Officials believe the institution will become a regional hub for sports education and innovation while helping Kazakhstan strengthen its presence in international sport.
