The countdown to Wimbledon 2026 has reached its final stage, and anticipation is building around one of the most competitive editions of the Championships in recent years. The iconic grass-court Grand Slam features a mix of established champions, rising stars and experienced contenders, making both the men’s and women’s singles draws difficult to predict.

On the men’s side, defending Wimbledon champion and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner enters the tournament as the player to beat. The Italian has enjoyed remarkable consistency over the past year, combining powerful baseline play with improved movement on grass. After lifting the Wimbledon trophy last season, Sinner begins his title defence carrying the expectations of remaining the sport’s dominant force.

However, seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic remains one of the biggest threats despite fierce competition from the younger generation. The Serbian legend is chasing a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam singles title, a feat that would further strengthen his place among tennis’ greatest players. His experience on Centre Court makes him a dangerous opponent regardless of his ranking.

American hopes rest largely on Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton. Fritz’s aggressive serve and confidence on grass have established him as a genuine contender, while Shelton’s explosive left-handed game gives him the ability to trouble even the tournament favourites. Former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev also remains in contention, having consistently reached the latter stages of major tournaments.

The women’s competition appears equally fascinating. World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka arrives in London as the favourite after another impressive campaign. Her powerful serve and aggressive style have made her one of the most consistent performers on the WTA Tour.

Close behind is Iga Swiatek, whose progress on grass has transformed her into a serious Wimbledon contender. The Polish star has continued to improve on the surface and will look to add the prestigious Wimbledon crown to her growing Grand Slam collection.

American star Coco Gauff also enters the Championships with strong expectations following her steady performances over the past season. Former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina remains one of the most dangerous players on grass thanks to her powerful serve and clean ball striking, while Jessica Pegula is considered a strong dark horse capable of making a deep run.

Beyond the favourites, several players could spring surprises during the fortnight. Emerging talents and grass-court specialists have the potential to upset the top seeds, ensuring another unpredictable Wimbledon filled with high-quality tennis.
