India wrapped up the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in emphatic fashion, registering a dominant nine-wicket victory in the third and final ODI at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. The hosts completed a 3-0 series whitewash with a clinical display in both departments, highlighted by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s unbeaten century and Prasidh Krishna’s match-winning spell with the ball.

After being invited to bat, Afghanistan posted 218 all out in 44.2 overs. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi stood tall amid regular wickets, producing a determined innings of 102 off 131 deliveries. His maiden ODI century came after a wait of 4,644 days since making his international debut, making it a memorable personal milestone despite the team’s defeat. Azmatullah Omarzai contributed a valuable 50, but Afghanistan struggled to build sustained partnerships as India’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure.

The standout performer with the ball was Prasidh Krishna, who dismantled Afghanistan’s batting line-up with figures of 5 for 23 in 8.2 overs. His disciplined pace and accuracy ensured the visitors never gained momentum, restricting them to a modest total on a batting-friendly surface. The five-wicket haul also marked a notable milestone in Prasidh’s ODI career.

India’s chase was built on a commanding opening partnership between Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The experienced Rohit played with freedom, striking 79 from 69 balls before being dismissed with victory well within reach. Jaiswal, however, remained unbeaten throughout the innings, finishing on 110 off 86 balls with an array of elegant boundaries and authoritative strokeplay.

The left-handed opener reached his second ODI century in only his third innings in the format, further strengthening his credentials as one of India’s brightest young batting stars. He paced the chase perfectly, combining composure with attacking intent to ensure India crossed the finish line comfortably at 224/1 in just 28.4 overs, with 128 balls remaining.

The victory capped a one-sided series in which India consistently outperformed Afghanistan. Having already secured wins by seven wickets in the opening ODI and 170 runs in the second, the hosts completed the clean sweep with another comprehensive performance.
