Indian para-athletics star Sumit Antil once again etched his name in the record books after breaking his own world record in the Men’s Javelin Throw F64 event at the 8th Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships in Bengaluru.
Representing Haryana, the two-time Paralympic champion registered a stunning throw of 74.82 metres to clinch the gold medal and surpass his previous world record mark of 73.29m, which he had achieved at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.
Antil dominated the competition from the outset, finishing well ahead of Maharashtra’s Sandip Sargar, who claimed silver with a best effort of 62.88m. Rajasthan’s Sandeep secured the bronze medal after recording 61.83m.
The championship also witnessed several impressive performances from Indian para-athletes. Paralympic medallist Praveen Kumar won gold in the Men’s High Jump T64 category with a clearance of 2.00m, while Varun Singh Bhati took silver with 1.84m.
In the Women’s 400m T20 event, Tokyo Paralympic gold medallist Deepthi Jeevanji impressed with a winning time of 57.84 seconds, continuing India’s strong showing at the championships.
