Cristian Romero is reportedly set to be in Argentina instead of attending Tottenham Hotspur F.C.’s crucial Premier League clash against Everton F.C. on Sunday.
The Tottenham captain is currently sidelined with a knee injury and is racing against time to recover before this summer’s FIFA World Cup. Spurs are still battling to avoid relegation, with a victory against Everton enough to secure Premier League safety.
A draw could also be sufficient because of Tottenham’s superior goal difference over 18th-placed West Ham United F.C.
Romero Spotted Travelling To Argentina
Romero fuelled speculation after posting a social media image showing himself and his family boarding a private jet. The defender was also seen at the training ground of his boyhood club Club Atlético Belgrano earlier this week.
According to reports, Romero is expected to attend Belgrano’s AFA Liga Torneo Apertura final against Club Atlético River Plate on Sunday.
Belgrano president Luis Artime reportedly confirmed the player has permission to use the club’s facilities while recovering from the injury suffered against Sunderland A.F.C. in April.
Spurs Fighting To Avoid Relegation
Tottenham’s final Premier League match has become extremely important as the club look to avoid relegation from the English top flight for the first time since the 1977-78 season.
Roberto De Zerbi has previously praised Romero’s influence around the squad despite the defender being unavailable on the pitch.
Meanwhile, West Ham must beat Leeds United F.C. and hope Tottenham lose to Everton to stand a realistic chance of survival.
Romero’s absence from the stadium during one of Tottenham’s biggest matches in recent years has already sparked strong reactions among supporters.
