The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has imposed three-year bans on Indian athletes Ankit and Jayesh Patil after both tested positive for the prohibited substance Meldonium. The disciplinary action comes as part of NADA’s continued crackdown on doping violations in Indian sports.
Ankit, representing the Services Sports Control Board, had finished third at the 69th National Cross Country Championships, while Jayesh Patil of Railways secured fifth place in the same event. Patil is also a silver medallist in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2024 Junior National Championships.
According to reports, both athletes accepted the charges brought against them, which resulted in a one-year reduction in their period of ineligibility. The bans officially came into effect from February 25 for Ankit and February 27 for Patil.
Meldonium is listed among banned substances by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and is commonly associated with endurance enhancement. The latest suspensions once again highlight the growing focus on maintaining integrity and fair competition in Indian athletics.
NADA has intensified anti-doping measures in recent years as Indian sports authorities aim to ensure stricter compliance with international standards ahead of major global competitions.
