Amina Orfi Creates History With World Squash Title; Mostafa Asal Retains Men’s Crown

Egypt enjoyed a historic night at the 2026 CIB Palm Hills PSA World Championships in Giza as teenage prodigy Amina Orfi scripted history by becoming the youngest women’s world champion ever, while World No.1 Mostafa Asal successfully defended his men’s title.

Playing in front of a packed home crowd at Golf Central Palm Hills, the 18-year-old Orfi produced one of the finest performances in recent squash history. She defeated eight-time world champion Nour ElSherbini in a thrilling five-game final 6-11, 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 14-12 after an intense 106-minute battle.

The dramatic victory saw Orfi save two championship points in the deciding game before sealing the biggest title of her career. With the triumph, she surpassed ElSherbini’s previous record to become the youngest-ever women’s world champion. The win also denied ElSherbini a record-extending ninth world title.

Orfi’s road to the crown was equally remarkable. Before the final, she survived another marathon encounter in the semi-finals against World No.1 Hania El Hammamy, winning a gruelling 103-minute clash. The teenager also became the first female player to simultaneously hold both the World Junior Championship and senior PSA World Championship titles.

In the men’s final, Asal once again showcased why he remains the dominant force in world squash. The Egyptian star defeated compatriot Youssef Ibrahim in straight games 11-4, 11-1, 12-10 to successfully retain his world crown.

Although Ibrahim mounted resistance in the third game, Asal’s relentless attacking play and precision proved too strong. The victory handed the 27-year-old his second PSA World Championship title and extended his tally to 29 PSA Tour titles.

The championship night further highlighted Egypt’s continued dominance in world squash, with both the men’s and women’s crowns staying firmly in Egyptian hands.
