Hyderabad Heroes Retain Key Stars Ahead of Rugby Premier League Season 2

Hyderabad Heroes have retained Kenyan star Moreno Wekesa and Indian player Sumit Kumar Roy ahead of Rugby Premier League Season 2.

The franchise confirmed the decision as part of its preparations for the upcoming campaign, with the management aiming to build continuity after an encouraging first season. (ianslive.in)

Moreno Wekesa Remains Key Figure

Moreno Wekesa emerged as one of Hyderabad Heroes’ standout performers during the inaugural season.

The Kenyan international impressed with his pace, physicality and leadership qualities, quickly becoming an important figure within the squad.

His retention is viewed as a major boost for Hyderabad’s ambitions heading into the new season.

Sumit Kumar Roy Returns to Strengthen Squad

Indian player Sumit Kumar Roy will also continue with the franchise after contributing strongly during the previous campaign.

Roy’s versatility and defensive work-rate made him an important part of the team’s structure, and the management believes his experience will help maintain balance within the squad.

Focus on Stronger Campaign in Season 2

The Rugby Premier League is continuing efforts to expand rugby’s popularity in India by attracting international talent alongside emerging domestic players.

Hyderabad Heroes are expected to be among the stronger contenders this season as teams focus on building stable combinations and improving tactical consistency.

The franchise management said retaining experienced performers was a crucial step toward achieving better results in Season 2.

Rugby’s Growth in India Continues

The league’s first season received encouraging support from fans and helped generate fresh interest in rugby across several Indian cities.

With international stars, local talent and growing commercial backing, organisers hope the Rugby Premier League can continue developing the sport’s ecosystem in India over the coming years.
