Carlo Ancelotti Says Brazil World Cup Spots Will Be Earned, Not Guaranteed

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that every player — including Neymar — will be evaluated purely on form, fitness, and performance ahead of the final squad announcement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Italian manager stressed that reputation alone will not secure a place in Brazil’s 26-man squad as the five-time world champions prepare for the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Neymar Included in Provisional Squad

Neymar has reportedly been named in Brazil’s provisional 55-man squad despite ongoing concerns over his fitness following injury setbacks in recent years.

Ancelotti acknowledged Neymar’s immense quality and importance to Brazilian football but insisted that selection decisions will depend on whether players are physically ready to compete at the highest level.

The Brazil boss recently stated that the forward’s World Cup hopes “depend only on him and what he shows on the pitch,” reinforcing his merit-based approach.

Competition for Places Intensifying

Brazil’s squad battle is expected to be one of the fiercest among World Cup contenders, with stars such as Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo, Casemiro, Bruno Guimaraes, Gabriel Martinelli, and Endrick all competing for places.

Veteran defender Thiago Silva has also reportedly remained in contention due to his strong club form, while younger talents continue pushing for selection.

Ancelotti Targets Brazil’s Sixth World Cup Title

Ancelotti, who took charge of Brazil in 2025 after leaving Real Madrid, is aiming to guide the Selecao to their first World Cup triumph since 2002.

The veteran coach has urged his players to embrace Brazil’s traditional attacking style and play with freedom rather than fear as expectations build ahead of the tournament.

Brazil are expected to announce their final World Cup squad later this month as preparations intensify for football’s biggest tournament.
