Desert Vipers are preparing for a major new challenge after securing a place in the 2026 Global Super League (GSL) following their maiden ILT20 title victory earlier this year.
The invitational tournament, officially titled the ExxonMobil Guyana GSLT20, will take place in Guyana between July 23 and August 1.
Franchise Champions from Around the World
The 2026 edition is expected to feature one of the strongest line-ups in the competition’s short history, bringing together champion franchise teams from multiple global T20 leagues.

Cricket analysts believe the tournament is moving closer to its long-term vision of becoming a “Champions League-style” competition for franchise cricket.

The Desert Vipers continue positioning themselves as one of cricket’s most sustainability-focused franchises.
During the Global Super League, the team plans to wear special biodiversity-themed kits designed to highlight the global decline in wildlife populations over the past five decades.
The jerseys were originally introduced during the franchise’s sustainability match in the ILT20 and produced using environmentally conscious manufacturing methods.
Vipers CEO Phil Oliver said the tournament offers the franchise an opportunity to spread its message of “playing for people and planet” to a wider international audience.
UAE Talent Development Continues
The franchise will also take four UAE-based players to Guyana as part of its long-term development strategy for local cricket talent.
Khuzaima bin Tanveer, Vriitya Aravind, Matiullah Khan and Sanjay Pahal are all expected to feature during the tournament.
Team officials believe exposure to international franchise competition will accelerate the growth of emerging UAE cricketers.

The Vipers will enter the GSL without many of the overseas stars who helped them win the ILT20 title.
Director of cricket Tom Moody acknowledged that injuries and scheduling conflicts across global franchise leagues have created selection challenges.
England all-rounder Sam Curran is among the unavailable players due to injury concerns.
The squad will instead be led by Australian spinner Chris Green alongside experienced fast bowler Jason Behrendorff.
