Oleksandr Usyk has revealed he is helping Anthony Joshua prepare a gameplan to defeat Tyson Fury in their long-awaited heavyweight clash later this year.
The unified champion believes Joshua has what it takes to overcome Fury, despite acknowledging the latter’s dangerous skill set. Usyk, who remains unbeaten and has beaten both fighters twice, said he has been closely observing Joshua’s training and improvement in recent months.
Usyk backs Joshua strongly
Usyk described Fury as an “unbelievable” and “dangerous” opponent but insisted Joshua deserves to win. The Ukrainian has been working with Joshua during training camps in Spain and Ukraine, offering guidance on tactics, technique and mental preparation.
According to Usyk, their discussions have focused not only on strategy but also on psychology, with an emphasis on maintaining confidence and discipline in high-pressure situations.
Training camp collaboration
Joshua is expected to rejoin Usyk’s camp in the coming weeks as part of his preparation. The Ukrainian champion is currently gearing up for his own title defence against Rico Verhoeven, but has still made time to assist Joshua.
Usyk suggested Joshua’s upcoming bout against Kristian Prenga on 25 July will serve as a stepping stone, describing it as “official sparring” ahead of the bigger challenge against Fury.
Emotional support off the ring
Beyond tactics, Usyk has also offered personal support to Joshua, who has faced a difficult period after being involved in a fatal car accident that claimed the lives of two of his friends.
The Ukrainian said he understands such emotional struggles, having lost friends during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He encouraged Joshua to stay strong, remain focused and make the most of the opportunities ahead.
Mega fight in focus
The potential showdown between Joshua and Fury has been in discussion for years, with multiple failed attempts to make it happen. Now, with both fighters moving closer to a deal, anticipation is building for one of British boxing’s biggest clashes.
With Usyk backing Joshua and actively contributing to his preparation, the fight has gained another intriguing dimension. If it goes ahead as planned, it could finally deliver the heavyweight battle fans have long been waiting for.
