Defending champions East Bengal FC Women delivered a commanding performance in the Indian Women’s League, cruising to a 3-1 win over Sribhumi FC Women thanks to a brilliant hat-trick from Fazila Ikwaput.
The Ugandan striker was the standout performer, scoring all three goals and leading her side from the front in a dominant display. Her goals came in the 37th minute, immediately after halftime, and again around the hour mark—effectively putting the match beyond Sribhumi’s reach.
East Bengal controlled the game from the outset, pressing high and creating constant attacking pressure. Ikwaput, in particular, looked dangerous throughout, troubling the opposition defence with her pace and finishing ability.
The breakthrough came late in the first half when a defensive error allowed Ikwaput to slot home the opener. She doubled the lead within a minute of the restart with a composed finish, before completing her hat-trick with a sharp turn and strike to make it 3-0.
Sribhumi managed a late consolation goal through Rimpa Haldar, but it had little impact on the outcome as East Bengal comfortably saw out the match.
With this victory, East Bengal strengthened their position at the top of the table, continuing their impressive run in the league. Ikwaput’s performance also underlined her growing influence, as she climbs the list of all-time top scorers in the competition.
The win reinforces East Bengal’s title credentials, with their star striker once again proving to be the difference-maker.
