Robert MacIntyre has signalled a clear focus on tightening his iron play as he prepares to chase a second Genesis Scottish Open title at The Renaissance Club in East Lothian this July. The 29-year-old Scot, who won the event in 2024, says specific areas of his game need refinement if he is to return the Claret Jug-style trophy to Oban and build on a strong start to the 2026 season.

MacIntyre, currently ranked 12th in the Official World Golf Ranking, emphasised that while his driving and putting are among the best of his career, his approach shots have “not been anywhere near as good as they need to be” if he wants to contend again in front of a passionate home crowd.

The Scotsman’s victory in the 2024 Scottish Open was one of the standout moments of his career. He finished on 18 under par (262), winning by a single stroke over Adam Scott, with a dramatic final-hole birdie that sealed the result and made MacIntyre the first Scot to lift his national open in 25 years.

That triumph was part of an excellent campaign in 2024, which also saw him capture the RBC Canadian Open — his first PGA Tour win — and establish himself as one of the leading British players on both the European and US circuits.

Beyond his home success, MacIntyre’s major championship record includes a T12 at the Masters (2021), runner-up at the 2025 US Open, a T6 at The Open (2019) and a T8 at the PGA Championship (2024), underlining his growing presence on golf’s biggest stages.

Off the course, the former Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year (2019) and two-time PGA Tour winner has balanced family life with elite competition, recently becoming a father. That personal milestone adds motivation as he seeks to convert his undoubted talent into further trophies.

MacIntyre’s competitive year has not been without challenges. Earlier this season, he drew attention for an emotional outburst and disciplinary warning at The Masters, where he missed the cut, prompting discussions about course behaviour at elite events.

As he looks ahead to returning to The Renaissance Club, MacIntyre’s message is clear: better iron play, consistent scoring and the hunger to win at home remain at the heart of his 2026 campaign.
