AFCON: Algeria and Nigeria Qualify for Knockouts as Group Battles Intensify

Algeria and Nigeria became the latest teams to confirm their places in the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stages, joining Egypt, as another dramatic day of group action unfolded across Morocco.

Nigeria March into Last 16 with Thrilling Win

Nigeria sealed qualification after an impressive but nervy 3-2 victory over Tunisia in Group C. Victor Osimhen opened the scoring just before half-time, with Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman extending the lead after the break. Tunisia mounted a late comeback through defenders Montassar Talbi and Ali Abdi, but Nigeria held firm. The Super Eagles’ second straight win guarantees them top spot in the group with one match still to play.

Mahrez Fires Algeria into Last 16

Riyad Mahrez led from the front as Algeria edged Burkina Faso 1-0 in Rabat to become the latest side to secure qualification for the Round of 16.

The Algerian captain converted a 23rd-minute penalty after Rayan Ait-Nouri was fouled by Ismahila Ouedraogo, scoring his third goal of the tournament. Burkina Faso threatened an equaliser before the break when Issa Kabore headed against the post, but Algeria stayed compact in the second half to see out the win and progress.

Amad Strikes as Ivory Coast, Cameroon Stay Unbeaten

Manchester United winger Amad Diallo was on the scoresheet, but Cameroon hit back to hold Ivory Coast to a 1-1 draw in their Group F clash in Marrakesh.

Amad gave Ivory Coast the lead shortly after half-time with a superb curled finish from the edge of the area. Cameroon responded within five minutes when Junior Tchamadeu’s shot deflected off Ghislain Konan and looped into the net. Both sides struck the woodwork before the interval, and the draw leaves them level on four points from two matches.

Mozambique Claim Historic First AFCON Win

Mozambique recorded a landmark moment by registering their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations victory, defeating Gabon 3-2 in Agadir.
Goals from Faizal Bangal and Geny Catamo put Mozambique in control early, and although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled one back, Diogo Calila restored a two-goal cushion. A late Gabon goal set up a tense finish, but Mozambique held on to keep their knockout hopes alive.

With qualification spots tightening, the final group matches promise high drama as teams chase places in the AFCON Round of 16.
