Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is facing growing criticism from supporters, pundits and statistical analysts as his tenure at the club comes under strain. Frank, who was appointed in June 2025 after Ange Postecoglou’s departure, initially oversaw solid performances, including a debut Premier League win and a strong showing in European competition. However, recent results have highlighted deeper issues that have fuelled discontent.

The most vivid flashpoint came in Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, where fans reacted angrily to Frank’s substitution decisions. Instead of introducing attacking options while trailing, he brought on a defender and midfielders, a choice supporters on social media labelled a “sackable offence”, deepening the divide between the manager and the fanbase.

Statistical trends have also amplified concerns about Spurs’ performance under Frank. The team has won only one of its last seven Premier League matches, leaving them mid-table and six points adrift of the top four, with attacking metrics such as expected goals and shot creation consistently underwhelming.

Frank’s relationship with supporters has been volatile. After a home loss to Fulham in which goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was booed, Frank publicly criticised the fans for their reaction during the match — comments that angered a section of the Tottenham faithful and fuelled debate about his leadership style. Conversely, Frank has also acknowledged positive fan support, praising a “warm” reception for Vicario before a later victory, illustrating ongoing tension and occasional unity between the squad, manager and supporters.

Amid the scrutiny, Frank has defended his long-term vision, stressing that Tottenham’s problems are “not a quick fix” and urging patience as he works to stabilise form and implement his approach at a club with high expectations. Analysts and former players have offered mixed views; some argue that questions around formation consistency and tactical choices are legitimate, while others call some of the negativity “exaggerated” given the challenges of a transition period and injuries.

With Spurs seeking greater consistency and clarity in their strategy, the next few weeks of fixtures could prove crucial in determining whether Frank’s project gains traction or the pressure for change continues to escalate.
