India Crash Out of ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2025 in Group Stage

India’s Campaign Ends Early

India’s mixed team bowed out of the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup 2025 after failing to secure a single win in the group stage. The team faced tough competition from Japan, Australia and Croatia, losing all three ties and ending their run earlier than expected. The decisive blow came in their final group fixture, where India went down 8–5 to Australia, confirming their exit.

Highlights Amid the Setbacks

Despite the overall disappointment, a few standout performances offered some encouragement.

  • Manav Thakkar and Swastika Ghosh registered India’s only match victory of the tournament with a mixed doubles win against Australia.

  • Manika Batra stunned top-level opponent Mima Ito in women’s singles during India’s tie against Japan, showcasing her ability to trouble world-class players.

These moments of brilliance underline India’s talent but also highlight the lack of consistency required to progress at this level.

A Pattern India Must Break

This exit marks India’s third consecutive group-stage elimination at the Mixed Team World Cup. With mixed-team formats increasingly significant on the global stage, including in future Olympic cycles, India’s repeated early exits raise concerns about preparation, squad depth and strategic planning.

India’s athletes have shown they can win big points — but converting those into tie victories remains a challenge.

Conclusion

India’s 2025 Mixed Team World Cup campaign reflects a blend of promise and persistent issues. While individual performances stood out, the team’s inability to combine strengths into cohesive, match-winning efforts cost them advancement. For future success, India must focus on improved team strategy, better match management and building depth across categories.

Only then can these flashes of brilliance translate into meaningful progress on the world stage.
