“Embarrassing. Pathetic. Predictable.” – England Fans Erupt After Crushing Ashes Defeat in Perth

England’s Ashes campaign is off to a nightmare start, and the reaction from supporters has been nothing short of explosive. After dominating the opening day and holding a strong position early on day two, England crumbled spectacularly to hand Australia a commanding victory in the first Test at Perth — and fans on social media have not held back.

What began with optimism and bravado has turned into a wave of anger, disbelief, and resignation.

From cocky to crushed: anger floods X (Twitter)

The mood on X shifted dramatically within 24 hours. England fans, who were celebrating their pace attack’s brilliance on day one, unleashed fury after watching the team collapse from a position of control yet again in Australia.

One fan summed up the general feeling:

 “By some distance England’s most embarrassing loss in Australia since 2010-11. No excuses left.”

Another wrote bluntly:

“Predictable. Same story every Ashes tour. Start well, collapse, get smashed. Rinse and repeat.”

Many users mocked the team’s aggressive “Bazball” approach, which was hailed before the series but backfired when England attempted risky strokes on a pitch expected to improve for batting.

“Bazball or bust — and it’s busted again,” wrote one frustrated supporter.

Piers Morgan, Vaughan among the disappointed voices

High-profile names joined the criticism.
Piers Morgan, who had boldly predicted England dominance, called the performance “so disappointing”, while former captain Michael Vaughan questioned England’s judgement and repeated mistakes.

Fans echoed those sentiments in harsher terms:

“Not even angry, just disappointed. Same mistakes as 2023.”

 “This team talks a big game but delivers nothing in Australia.”

Travis Head’s blistering 123 powered Australia to an eight-wicket win in the first Ashes Test, with strong support from Marnus Labuschagne, who contributed a composed 50.

Travis Head becomes the villain of English Twitter

Australia’s Travis Head — fresh off an explosive match-winning innings — became a focal point of fan frustration. Memes, sarcastic posts, and grudging admiration flooded timelines.

One post read:

 

“England vs Travis Head: 1 Test, 1 humiliation.”

Another joked:

“We didn’t lose to Australia. We lost to Travis Head alone.”

Hope evaporates as fears of a 5–0 whitewash return

With the second Test — a day–night encounter in Brisbane — just days away, fans are already bracing for the worst. Many fear the momentum has tipped decisively towards Australia.

 “Lose in Brisbane and it’s 5–0 written all over it.”

Others urged calm, but not many seemed confident:

“If they can’t win from 65/1 with a 105-run lead, what chance do we have under lights at the Gabba?”

England under pressure as backlash grows

The online storm has put added heat on Ben Stokes’ side as they prepare for Brisbane on December 4. With expectations collapsing as rapidly as England’s second-innings batting, fans are demanding a response — and fast.

For now, though, the message from the English public is loud and clear:
Enough talk. Show us something different.
