Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green has expressed strong support for India’s growth in the global sports arena, saying, “We strongly back India to be a leader in major sports development.”

Speaking at the FICCI TURF 2025 – Global Summit on the Business of Sports, Green highlighted several areas of potential collaboration:

India’s ambitions to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and possibly the 2036 Olympics.

  • Australian companies already working on sports infrastructure in India, including in Ahmedabad.

  • Opportunities in sports medicine, science, and technology where Australia can partner deeper with India.

Green’s remarks come amid broader bilateral efforts:

  • He previously emphasized Australia’s commitment to India’s “sports journey” during the Australia-India Sports Excellence Forum in Gujarat.

  • The two countries are discussing cooperation not just in elite sports performance, but also in sports science, event management, and infrastructure.

The message is clear: Australia sees India as a rising power in sport — and is ready to help it scale new heights.
