The Indian cricket team is set to host South Africa for a two-match Test series. The 1st Test will be played at the iconic Eden Gardens Stadium, Kolkata from November 14 onwards. Notably, this series is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27. This is India’s 3rd series of the 4th WTC cycle. They drew 2-2 against England away and beat West Indies 2-0 at home.

Ahead of a cracking encounter at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, we present India’s record at this venue.

India’s win-loss record at Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Interestingly, India have played 42 Test matches at Eden Gardens to date, as per ESPNcricinfo. India own 13 wins in addition to posting 20 drawns and another 9 defeats. Against South Africa, India own a 2-1 record from three matches in this stadium.

India’s highest and lowest totals at this venue

India’s highest team total at Eden Gardens is 657/7d versus Australia in 2001. They own the top 5 scores here with each of them being in excess of 600. Meanwhile, India’s lowest total here reads 90 versus West Indies in 1983. India’s next lowest score of 124 is also against the Windies back in 1958.

Who is India’s top scorer and highest wicket-taker?

Former Indian batter VVS Laxman owns the most runs at Eden Gardens in Tests. He bagged 1217 runs from 10 matches at 110.63. Rahul Dravid is next with 962 runs at 68.71. Among bowlers, Harbhajan Singh managed 46 wickets here at 21.76. Anil Kumble is the only other bowler with 40-plus wickets (40).

Highest individual score and most fifty-plus scores 

Laxman’s 281 versus Australia in 2001 is the highest individual score at Eden Gardens. Meanwhile, Laxman also owns the highest number of 50-plus scores here (8). He hammered 5 hundred and three fifties.

Best innings and match figures

South Africa’s Lance Klusener posted the best figures in an innings here. He recorded 8/64 versus India in 1996. In terms of match figures, Javagal Srinath and Harbhajan posted 13 wickets each. Srinath picked 13/132 versus Pakistan in 1999. Harbhajan managed 13/196 versus Australia in 2001.

Which pair owns the highest partnership?

Laxman and Dravid’s 376 runs for the 5th wicket against Australia in 2001 remains the highest partnership here (any wicket). India won that Test by a margin of 171 runs.
