Tottenham Hotspur suffered a disappointing 0-1 defeat against Chelsea at their home ground, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Matchday 10 of the Premier League 2025/26 season. The loss marked Chelsea’s fifth consecutive victory over their London rivals.
Joao Pedro scored the only goal of the match in the first half, assisted by Moises Caicedo, who was praised for his outstanding performance.
This match also marked Spurs’s lowest expected goals (0.05 xG) in a Premier League game this season, according to Opta data since 2012/13.
Chelsea get the job done
Chelsea’s Pedro scored the opener in the 34th minute, ending his 10-game goal drought. The goal came after Caicedo robbed Spurs defender Micky van de Ven of the ball. Chelsea could have doubled their lead but substitutes Jamie Gittens and Pedro missed golden opportunities in stoppage time.
Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was instrumental in the team’s victory, commanding his area and preventing any shots from set-piece situations.
Contrasting numbers for the two teams
This resolute defensive display helped Chelsea secure their fourth consecutive away win across all competitions. On the other hand, the defeat further deepened Tottenham’s woes at home, marking their 12th defeat in the last 19 league games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Maresca pleased with his side’s performance
“Yeah. Was a good performance for sure. Spurs look very very good. You need this kind of performance to win,” said Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca to Sky Sports after the match.
“I think you have to be brave on the ball and off the ball. Off the ball we were good but on the ball we create many chances. We are very happy, for us, for the fans – it’s a big derby, and we move on.”
Both teams are on 17 points after 10 matches
After 10 Premier League matches this season, Chelsea and Tottenham both own 17 points each with 5 wins, two draws and three defeats. However, Chelsea are behind Tottenham on basis of goal difference.
Win for leaders Arsenal; Manchester United’s momentum stalled at City Ground
Earlier on Saturday, Premier League leaders Arsenal beat Burnley at Turf Moor. Goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice helped Arsenal win 2-0. They have now raced to 25 points from 10 matches. Arsenal picked up their 13th win of the season in all competitions from 15 games. This was their 8th win in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Arsenal kept their 12th clean sheet of the season in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Manchester United saw their three-match winning run in the Premier League come to an end with a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. Amad Diallo’s spectacular 81st-minute goal helped Ruben Amorim’s men equalise. The Red Devils came close late on to win the contest.
