Asian U-15 champion Tanvi Patri and former title holder Bornil Changmai will lead a 36-member Indian contingent at the Badminton Asia U-17 & U-15 Championships, scheduled from October 21 to 26 in Chengdu, China.
India aims to extend strong record
Both Tanvi and Changmai are set to feature in the U-17 category this time, as India looks to build on its successful campaigns in recent years. The team secured one gold and a bronze in the 2024 edition, along with a gold, silver, and bronze in 2023 – all in Chengdu.
Selection from national ranking tournament
The squad was finalised on the basis of performances at the Ashwani Gupta Memorial All India Sub Junior Ranking Tournament, held in Panchkula from September 13 to 21. The mix of established names and emerging talents reflects the depth of India’s junior badminton pool.
“India’s consistent results in age-group competitions show the strength of our development programme. This squad has a strong chance of adding to our medal tally,” said Badminton Association of India Secretary General, Sanjay Mishra.
Sharayu to feature across formats
Among the notable names, Sharayu Ranjane will compete in U-15 singles, girls’ doubles with Soyara Shelar, and mixed doubles alongside Hemanth Sri Sammetla. In U-17 mixed doubles, Punith S will pair with Deepak Raj Aditi, with both also featuring in doubles events.
