The Super Cup group stage will feature a blockbuster Kolkata Derby as Mohun Bagan and East Bengal were drawn together on Thursday, setting up a high-voltage encounter in Goa later next month.
Derby on October 31
Both traditional rivals have been placed in Group A alongside Chennaiyin FC and Real Kashmir FC. The much-anticipated clash is scheduled for October 31 at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao, marking their third meeting in less than six months. Mohun Bagan are expected to play their group games on October 25, 28, and 31, with the derby as the finale.
Group allocations
The 16 teams have been divided into four groups of four. Group B features FC Goa, Jamshedpur FC, NorthEast United FC, and Inter Kashi. Group C comprises Bengaluru FC, Mohammedan Sporting, Punjab FC, and Gokulam Kerala FC, while Group D has Mumbai City FC, Kerala Blasters FC, Hyderabad FC, and Rajasthan United FC.
High stakes and recent history
The tournament will be staged entirely in Goa, with the Fatorda Stadium hosting both the opening match and the final. Mohun Bagan and East Bengal have already met twice this season, in the Calcutta Football League Premier Division and the Durand Cup, with East Bengal winning on both occasions.
More than just bragging rights
Traditionally the season’s closing tournament, the Super Cup will this time open the domestic calendar. The stakes are even higher as the champions will secure a spot in the AFC Champions League 2 qualifiers for the 2026-27 season.
