NEW DELHI : Top seeds G Sathiyan and Diya Chitale stamped their authority at the UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships, winning the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively. Sathiyan defeated young challenger Ankur Bhattacharjee 4-1 in a tactically intense final, recovering sharply after dropping the third game on a game point. “Extremely happy with the form I have been in,” Sathiyan said after lifting his first title of the season, a confidence booster ahead of his upcoming WTT event in Turkey.
Defending women’s champion Diya Chitale was in commanding form, overpowering former national champion Sutirtha Mukherjee 4-0. Returning to full fitness after early-season injuries, Diya combined composure and consistency to maintain relentless pressure on her opponent. Despite some resistance from Sutirtha, Diya’s momentum proved unstoppable.
The tournament highlighted the gap in experience and class between reigning stars and their competitors, underscoring Sathiyan and Chitale’s continued dominance in Indian table tennis .
