Kolkata: East Bengal FC capped off their group-stage campaign in the 134th IndianOil Durand Cup with a dominant 6–1 victory over Indian Air Force FT at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan on Sunday, securing the top position in Group A with a perfect record of three wins from as many matches.
Early Lead Sets The Tone
The Red and Gold Brigade wasted no time asserting their dominance. Moroccan forward Hamid Ahadad opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a clinical header from an Edmund Lalrindika cross. Just minutes later, Bipin Singh doubled the lead, finishing off a flowing move to put the hosts firmly in control.
Air Force Fightback Briefly Halts Momentum
Indian Air Force FT found a lifeline in the 36th minute when Aman Khan nodded home from close range to make it 2–1. The goal sparked a brief spell of pressure from the visitors, but East Bengal’s defence stood firm to take their advantage into the break.
Second-Half Onslaught Secures Victory
The second half saw East Bengal regain complete control. Centre-back Anwar Ali restored the two-goal cushion with a towering header in the 63rd minute. Substitute Mohammad Basim Rashid added the fourth before Saúl Crespo and David Hmar found the net in quick succession, sealing an emphatic win.
Perfect Group Stage Performance
With this result, East Bengal finished their group campaign unbeaten and with maximum points, underlining their status as strong contenders for the title. The depth of the squad was on full display as six different players contributed to the scoring, reflecting the side’s attacking versatility.
