India Assures 6 Medals at Under-22 Asian Boxing Championships

Bangkok, Thailand – India’s boxing contingent delivered a powerful performance at the Under-22 Asian Boxing Championships 2025 on Monday, assuring themselves of six additional medals as six more pugilists sealed their spots in the semifinals. This impressive run brings India’s total medal count to eight in the U22 category, setting a strong foundation for the knockout stages.

Monday’s Dominant Quarterfinal Victories

The day began with a decisive march of Indian boxers into the last four.

  • Priya (women’s 60kg) started the winning streak with a dominant unanimous 5:0 verdict over Japan’s Sarii Kokufu.
  • Harsh (men’s 60kg) followed suit, showcasing his superiority with an identical 5:0 score line against Mongolia’s Munkh-Erdene Erdenebold.
  • Paranjal Yadav (women’s 70kg) had to dig deep in a fiercely contested bout against China’s Mengge Zhang. In an aggressive back-and-forth battle, the Indian prevailed with a split 3:2 decision, becoming the third boxer to guarantee a medal in the morning session.
  • In the evening session, Neeraj (men’s 75kg) continued the charge, delivering a comprehensive 5:0 battering to Chinese Taipei’s Jun-Zhang Lin.
  • Rockey Chaudhary (men’s 85kg) then displayed tactical brilliance to secure a 4:1 victory over Kazakhstan’s Azatbek Zholdaskhan, assuring the fifth medal for the day.
  • Rounding off the spectacular day, Ishan Kataria (men’s 90+kg) underlined India’s overwhelming dominance, reaching the semifinals after his bout against Iran’s Seyedyousef Mousavi was stopped by the referee.

Among the seven Indian boxers in action on Monday, only Sagar faced a setback, suffering a reversal in his men’s 55kg quarterfinal bout.

Building on Early Success

These six new medal assurances add to India’s strong start from Sunday, when Bhawna Sharma (women’s 48kg) and Yatri Patel (women’s 57kg) had already secured their semifinal berths, bringing the total number of guaranteed medals to eight ahead of the crucial semifinal clashes.
