Meronk, Niemann, and Grace Share Lead After Opening Round at LIV Golf UK

Hemel Hempstead, England – Poland’s Adrian Meronk surged to a share of the lead, fueled by a scorching run of five birdies in six holes, after the opening round of the LIV Golf UK tournament at Centurion Club. He is joined atop the leaderboard by Chile’s Joaquin Niemann and South Africa’s Branden Grace, with all three carding impressive 6-under par 65s on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Leaders’ Impressive Starts:

  • Adrian Meronk’s Surge: After a slow start that saw him just 1-under through seven holes (including a bogey at the sixth), Meronk ignited his round. He birdied the 8th and 9th, then after a par on the 10th, rattled off three more consecutive birdies, including one at the challenging 639-yard, par-5 13th. His return to form follows his season-opening victory in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in February.
  • Joaquin Niemann’s Flawless Round: Niemann delivered a bogey-free performance, highlighted by four birdies on the front nine. He maintained his clean scorecard by finishing with five consecutive pars. Niemann currently sits atop the overall player standings with three events remaining in the season, all to be held in the United States.
  • Branden Grace’s Strong Finish: Grace was briefly at 7-under for the day before a bogey at the par-4 15th hole. He closed out his round with three consecutive pars to ensure his share of the lead.

Chasing Pack:

A competitive field is hot on the heels of the leaders:

  • Bubba Watson is in a three-way tie for fourth place at 5-under, alongside England’s Lee Westwood and Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz. Watson narrowly missed joining the leaders after a bogey on the par-3 17th. He currently sits 31st in the overall standings, in the “Open Zone” as relegation looms but safely above the “Drop Zone.”
  • A group of four players are tied for seventh place at 4-under, including Englishmen Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton, American Caleb Surratt, and Australia’s Marc Leishman.
  • Lee Westwood, currently 45th in the overall standings, showed significant improvement following a strong performance at the LIV event in Virginia last month.

The stage is now set for a thrilling weekend as the golfers battle for supremacy at the Centurion Club.
