Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap Announce Separation After Six Years of Marriage Indian Badminton Icons End Their Relationship, Request Privacy During Emotional Time

Hyderabad: In a heartfelt and unexpected revelation, Indian badminton stars Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap have officially announced their separation, bringing an end to their nearly seven-year-long marriage. The couple, who tied the knot on December 14, 2018, made the announcement via social media on Sunday, July 14.

“We’re Choosing Peace and Growth”: Saina’s Statement

Olympic bronze medallist and former World No. 1 Saina Nehwal took to Instagram to confirm the development:

“Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways. We’re choosing peace, growth, and healing – for ourselves and each other. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time.”

The emotional post was met with an outpouring of support from fans, fellow athletes, and members of the badminton community.

A Bond Forged Through Sport, Now Ended

The pair met during their formative years at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad. Over the years, they evolved from training partners to life partners and represented a power couple in Indian sport.

Saina Nehwal, 35, has been one of India’s most celebrated shuttlers, with accolades including an Olympic bronze medal (2012), a stint as world No. 1, and over 24 international titles.

Parupalli Kashyap, 38, was a former Commonwealth Games gold medallist (2014) and reached a career-best world ranking of No. 6.

The couple maintained a relatively private personal life, though Saina often mentioned their shared understanding of the pressures of elite sport.

Kashyap’s Silent Response and Public Activities

Interestingly, Parupalli Kashyap has not issued any formal statement on the separation. However, hours before Saina’s post, he was reportedly seen attending the Awakenings Festival in the Netherlands and shared a story on his Instagram, which has since been deleted.

Reports suggest the couple had been living separately for some time, though neither had previously addressed it in public.

Reasons Remain Private, But Clues Were Visible

In a 2021 interview, Saina had hinted at the differences in their personalities:

“We are opposites in every way except badminton.”

While the exact reasons for the split have not been disclosed, sources close to the duo say it was a mutual decision stemming from personal differences rather than any single triggering event.

What’s Next for the Two Stars?

Kashyap retired from professional badminton in 2024 and has since taken up coaching. Saina, who has been battling chronic knee injuries and arthritis, is believed to be contemplating retirement later this year.

Their separation, though shocking to fans, reflects the growing trend of athletes prioritizing mental health and personal peace over public expectations.

Latest Update:

As of Monday morning, Saina Nehwal has deleted several older photos with Kashyap from her social media, including their wedding pictures. Meanwhile, fans continue to post messages of love and encouragement for both athletes as they move forward individually.

A graceful farewell to a partnership that inspired millions.
While their marriage may have come to an end, their contribution to Indian badminton remains a shared legacy.
