It was a truly historic night for India at the US Open 2025, a BWF Super 300 badminton event held in Council Bluffs, Iowa! Two of India’s brightest young talents, Ayush Shetty and Tanvi Sharma, both stormed their way into the Men’s and Women’s Singles Finals, respectively.
Ayush Shetty’s Incredible Comeback
Twenty-year-old Ayush Shetty pulled off a stunning upset, staging an incredible comeback to defeat the top seed and World No. 9, Chou Tien-Chen. This victory marks his very first BWF World Tour final, a huge milestone in his burgeoning career.
Ayush, who had already shown promise by finishing third at the Orleans Masters earlier this year, lost a close first game but didn’t give up. He then brilliantly outplayed the top seed with scores of 21-23, 21-15, 21-14 in a high-quality semifinal that kept fans on the edge of their seats for 67 minutes. What a performance.
Tanvi Sharma Becomes Youngest Indian Finalist
Not to be outdone, 16-year-old Tanvi Sharma cruised past seventh seed Polina Buhrova, making her the youngest Indian ever to reach a World Tour final!
Tanvi, currently ranked World No. 66, was in dominant form, securing her spot in the women’s singles final with a strong 21-14, 21-16 win over Ukraine’s Buhrova. She’s been on an impressive run, beating several higher-ranked players on her journey to the final, including the second seed Thuy Linh Nguyen and former Junior World Champion Pitchamon Opatniputh.
What’s Next in the Finals?
The stakes are high for both youngsters! Tanvi will face the formidable top seed Beiwen Zhang of the USA in her final match. A win would make her the youngest Indian to ever clinch a BWF World Tour title. Meanwhile, Ayush is set to take on the third-seeded Brian Yang of Canada.
Indian badminton fans will definitely be watching keenly to see if these “young guns” can bring home the titles.
