Tamil Arasu had a great day at the Indian Open athletics meet in Bengaluru on Saturday. He absolutely blazed through the competition, snagging a sprint double that had everyone talking.
Arasu first conquered a packed field in the men’s 100m, clocking an impressive 10.46 seconds. But he wasn’t done there! He then went on to grab gold in the 200m as well. This one was a tight finish; Arasu (from Race E) posted a time of 21.25 seconds, matching Haryana’s Shubham (from Race A). However, Arasu was ultimately declared the winner thanks to a better reading on wind-resistance. Talk about a close call!
Other Highlights from the Track & Field
It wasn’t just Arasu making waves. Young talent Abinaya Rajarajan really shined in the women’s 100m, taking first place with a fantastic run of 11.55 seconds.
In the field events, Railways’ Bhavani Yadav snatched the women’s long jump gold. She pulled off a superb 6.31m leap on her very last attempt, just edging out JSW’s Sandra Babu (who jumped 6.24m).
And in the men’s 400m, Tamil Nadu’s Rajesh Ramesh absolutely flew past his rivals, securing the gold with a blistering 45.97 seconds.
A Bit of a Hitch for Pole Vaulters
There was a small snag for some athletes, though. The pole vault events had to be moved last-minute to the SAI campus. Officials explained that the SAI facilities were simply better equipped for pole vaulting, even if the decision came a bit late in the day.
