Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino delivered a sensational run to win the women’s 400m at the Paris Diamond League on Friday, edging out Salwa Eid Naser in a thrilling finish. The Dominican star clocked a season-best 48.81 seconds — also a new meet record — as she surged past Naser in the final stretch to claim victory.
In the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, 20-year-old Faith Cherotich continued her incredible form. The Kenyan, who bagged bronze at the Paris Olympics, outkicked her long-time rival Peruth Chemutai in the closing metres to take the win in a personal best of 8:53.37 — adding to her triumphs in Doha and Oslo earlier this year.
The women’s 100m hurdles saw a big upset as American Grace Stark stunned the field with a blazing run. The 24-year-old led from the gun and crossed the line in 12.21 seconds, shaving a tenth off her previous best and beating Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the world record holder and 2022 world champ, who finished second.
In the men’s 400m hurdles, Olympic gold medallist Rai Benjamin made it look effortless. The American cruised to a meeting record of 46.93 seconds, comfortably holding off Qatar’s Abderrahman Samba — who had set the previous record back in 2018.
