Birthday Boy Jeppe Kristian Andersen Sets Course Record at Irish Challenge

PC- DP World Tour

Jeppe Kristian Andersen celebrated his 30th birthday in spectacular fashion at the Irish Challenge, firing a sizzling seven-under-par 65 at Killeen Castle to set a new course record and seize a commanding three-shot lead heading into the final round.

A Lightning Start to Take Control

Starting the day two strokes behind the leaders, the Dane wasted no time climbing to the top of the leaderboard. Four consecutive birdies from the second hole set the tone for a dominant round, and by the end of play, Andersen was 12-under for the tournament. France’s Oihan Guillamoundeguy sits in second at nine-under, while Switzerland’s Ronan Kleu is a further shot back in third.

“It was a good present to give myself,” Andersen said with a grin. “I played solid all day, made one mistake, but there was plenty of good stuff. I hit it close and holed a few putts. From the fairway it was playable today, but with firm greens, missing fairways made it tough. I stayed patient, and that was key.”

Birdies, Momentum, and a Record

After his blistering start, Andersen added further birdies at the seventh and 12th holes. A bogey at the par-three 14th did little to derail his charge, as he responded with birdies on the 15th and 17th to close out a round that combined precision and composure.

The performance marks a high point in a career that has seen its share of challenges. After finishing 36th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings during his 2023 debut season, Andersen endured a tough 2024 campaign. This year, fewer tournament appearances have given him the chance to focus on form rather than quantity.

Eyes on the Prize

A victory on Sunday would be a major milestone for Andersen. “It would be a huge boost,” he admitted. “I’ve learned a lot from my first couple of years, and now I’m playing better with fewer starts. If I can drive the ball well tomorrow, I think I can win.”

Behind him, Guillamoundeguy remains within striking distance, while Kleu will look to apply pressure from third. Italy’s Stefano Mazzoli, England’s Will Enefer, and Chile’s Gabriel Morgan share fourth at six-under, with Scotland’s Craig Howie in seventh at five-under.

The final round tees off at 7:00 am local time, with Andersen, Guillamoundeguy, and Kleu in the last group at 11:34 am. If Andersen keeps his birthday momentum going, the celebrations may continue with silverware in hand.
