Historic Sporting Moment: India’s Legal Fraternity Shines at 1st International Bar & Bench Badminton Championship in Thailand

Thailand : In a first-of-its-kind event, the Indian legal community has taken a significant leap onto the international sports stage. The 1st International Bar & Bench Badminton Championship was held in Phuket, Thailand, on August 28, 2025, bringing together top lawyers from across nations to compete in a spirit of sportsmanship and fitness.

Organized by Deka Events and spearheaded by former international badminton player Ms. Abantika Deka, this prestigious event marked a historic milestone uniting legal professionals through badminton. Representing India was a formidable team of 25 champions who secured the top three positions in the recently concluded 3rd National Bar & Bench Badminton Championship held in New Delhi on July 26-27, 2025.

The Indian team featured an impressive lineup including Jatin D., Vishal, Merlyn, Ajay, Neeraj, Paras, Vaishnav, Rahul, Varun, Chandru Sir, Niti S., Pallavi D., Rajanna, Ramesh K., L. A. Jan, Arvind A., Rangi, Sunil K. S., Amarnath, Gaurav S., D. Rohilla, Arjun, Diva, Ashwarya, and Shweta. Their participation symbolized not only athletic excellence but also the growing recognition of sports as an integral part of life within the legal community.

This international tournament in Phuket exemplifies the synergy where law meets athleticism, promoting fitness, camaraderie, and cross-border friendship among legal professionals. It builds on domestic successes such as the National Bar & Bench Championships, reinforcing sports as a vital avenue for networking and well-being for legal fraternity members.

The historic championship was more than just a competition; it was a celebration of unity, determination, and the breaking of new grounds where lawyers transcended their traditional roles to engage in global sportsmanship.

This event heralds a new chapter in Indian legal sports, showcasing that strength in the courtroom can translate into vigor on the badminton court, inspiring future generations of legal professionals to embrace sports alongside their demanding careers.

Such pioneering initiatives fortify the message that holistic development, encompassing physical fitness and mental agility, is essential in the making of exemplary legal minds.

This landmark occasion will surely be remembered as a defining moment in the sporting history of India’s legal fraternity.
