India Take Firm Control On Day 3 As Jaiswal, Deep Shine At The Oval

Kennington Oval, London : Day 3 of the 5th Test between India and England saw a dramatic shift in momentum as India surged ahead on the back of a brilliant century from Yashasvi Jaiswal and a surprising but critical half-century from nightwatchman Akash Deep. With a solid second innings total of 396, India set England a daunting target of 374. By stumps, England had reached 50/1, still requiring 324 runs with two full days remaining.

Jaiswal’s Third Century Of The Series Cements His Stardom

Yashasvi Jaiswal once again rose to the occasion with a majestic 119 off 185 deliveries. The opener displayed remarkable composure and flair, anchoring India’s innings through the early morning session. His knock, laced with 14 fours and 2 sixes, marked his third century of the series, further establishing him as the standout performer of the tour.

Akash Deep’s Unexpected Fifty Stuns England

Inserted as a nightwatchman late on Day 2, Akash Deep defied expectations with a spirited 66 off 92 balls. The young pacer, known more for his swing bowling than his batting, partnered with Jaiswal for a 107-run stand that proved to be the turning point of the day. Deep’s counterattacking innings featured 10 boundaries and drew praise for its timing and temperament under pressure.

Middle Order Contributes As India Build Commanding Lead

Following the departure of Jaiswal and Deep, India’s middle and lower order contributed steadily. Ravindra Jadeja added 58, continuing his fine form, while Washington Sundar chipped in with a brisk 50 off 39 balls to ensure India pushed their lead past the 370-mark.

Josh Tongue Bags Five But England Left With Steep Climb

For England, Josh Tongue emerged as the lone bright spot with a five-wicket haul (5/95), his second of the series. Despite his efforts, England’s bowlers were left frustrated by missed chances and an unrelenting Indian batting lineup. The hosts now face a monumental task to chase 374 on a pitch beginning to show signs of variable bounce.

England Lose Crawley Early In Second Innings

Chasing 374, England made a cautious start but lost Zak Crawley (13) to a vicious yorker from Mohammed Siraj. Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope saw off the remaining overs of the day, guiding England to 50/1 at close. With plenty of time left in the match, the contest is set for a riveting finish.

Score Summary – Day 3

India 1st Innings: 202
England 1st Innings: 224
India 2nd Innings: 396 (Jaiswal 119, Deep 66, Jadeja 58, Sundar 50; Tongue 5/95)
England 2nd Innings: 50/1 (13.5 overs)

Target for England: 374
England require: 324 runs with 9 wickets in hand

Looking Ahead: A Test For England’s Grit

With two full days remaining, England’s task is steep but not impossible. They’ll need a disciplined and aggressive approach, while India’s bowlers—led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj—will look to exploit the deteriorating conditions. The Oval is set for a grand finale as the series hangs in the balance with India aiming to level it at 2-2.
