Anshul Kamboj Poised For Test Debut As India Reshuffle Squad For Fourth Test Against England

Anshul Kamboj Poised For Test Debut As India Reshuffle Squad For Fourth Test Against England

MANCHESTER : In a significant development ahead of the fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford, India captain Shubman Gill has all but confirmed the debut of young fast bowler Anshul Kamboj. The 24-year-old Haryana pacer is expected to earn his maiden Test cap following a string of injuries that have depleted India’s pace attack.

With Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh both ruled out due to injuries, India’s bowling lineup is in urgent need of reinforcements. Kamboj, who has been with the team since the third Test, is now set to make his first international appearance. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Gill expressed full confidence in the youngster.

“He’s been bowling really well in the nets,” Gill said. “He’s been with us for a while now and is very close to playing. His control, discipline, and attitude have really impressed everyone.”

Anshul Kamboj has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket and was called up as a reserve for the England series. Sources within the team management suggest he has outperformed fellow contender Prasidh Krishna in training and is being seen as a reliable option to partner veteran pacers in what is a must-win match for India.

Rishabh Pant Returns To Full Fitness

Amid speculation about his fitness, Rishabh Pant has been cleared to resume wicketkeeping duties in the fourth Test. Pant had played a limited role with the gloves during the third Test at Lord’s due to a niggle, but Gill confirmed he is now fully fit and ready.

“He’s fit and keeping well,” Gill assured. “He will take the gloves in the next match.”

Pant’s return as wicketkeeper provides a crucial boost to India’s balance, allowing the team to maintain depth in both batting and bowling departments.

Karun Nair Gets Another Chance

In the batting lineup, Karun Nair retains his place despite a string of underwhelming performances. The middle-order batter has managed just 131 runs in six innings, with a highest score of 40. However, the team leadership remains patient with Nair, believing he is close to rediscovering his best form.

“Karun has looked good in patches,” said Gill. “He’s just one good knock away from turning things around. We have full belief in his ability.”

India Trail Series 2–1, Must Win In Manchester

India enter the fourth Test trailing 2–1 in the five-match series. With just two games remaining, the visitors face a must-win situation to avoid a series defeat. The addition of fresh talent like Kamboj and the return of key players such as Pant could provide the momentum India desperately needs.

England, on the other hand, will look to seal the series at home and continue their dominant form, particularly with their batting unit firing across all three Tests so far.
