China : India’s women’s basketball team encountered a formidable opponent in Chinese Taipei during their second Group A match at the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025 Division B, held at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre in China. Despite a promising start, India was unable to sustain momentum and fell 83-39 to the higher-ranked team.
The contest opened with India’s Pushpa Senthil Kumar capitalizing on a fast break to put her team on the scoreboard first. However, Chinese Taipei, ranked sixth in the world, quickly seized control. The first quarter ended with Chinese Taipei ahead 19-10, and by halftime, their lead had widened to 39-19.
India’s offense struggled to break through the opposition’s defense. Anmolpreet Kaur emerged as India’s top scorer with 8 points, while Pushpa Senthil Kumar contributed 7. On the other side, Yu-Ting Lin led Chinese Taipei with 13 points, steering her side to a comfortable victory.
This result comes after India’s opening win against Kazakhstan, where Pushpa Senthil Kumar played a pivotal role. However, against Chinese Taipei, the Indian team could not match the pace and precision of their opponents. India, currently ranked 15th in Asia, will look to regroup and improve in their remaining group matches as they pursue promotion to Division A.
