The Suruchi Singh Kamaljeet Asian Games 2026 Gold story is one of a second chance turning into a record-breaking triumph. The Indian pair won the 10m air pistol mixed team gold at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on September 25, producing 484.6 points in the final. Their score was an Asian record and gave India its second gold medal of the Games, as well as its first shooting gold of the competition.
The victory was particularly significant because neither shooter had reached the individual final. Kamaljeet finished ninth with 580, missing the men’s 10m air pistol final by one point, while Suruchi finished 26th in the women’s qualification. A late change to India’s mixed-team combination brought Kamaljeet in for Kedarling Uchaganve, giving the Haryana shooters an unexpected opportunity to compete together.
Suruchi Singh Kamaljeet Lead Qualification
The new combination immediately showed its potential. Suruchi and Kamaljeet topped the mixed-team qualification with 587 points and 29 inner 10s. They produced series scores of 196, 195 and 196, putting them firmly into the medal round.
That qualification performance set up a four-team final involving India, South Korea, Iran and Indonesia. India then carried its momentum into the decisive contest.
The pair opened Stage 1 with 103.0, moving to 202.4 and then 303.5. In Stage 2, they reached 364.7 before extending their advantage to 424.9. Iran eventually secured bronze with 415.8, while South Korea remained India’s closest challenger.

India ultimately finished on 484.6, while South Korea’s Suhyeon Hong and Gaeun Choo took silver with 478.0. Iran’s Haniyeh Rostamiyan and Vahid Golkhandan won bronze with 415.8. The Indian margin over South Korea was 6.6 points.
The 484.6 score also surpassed the previous Asian record of 481.3, making the Indian performance more than just a gold-medal result. It was a new continental benchmark.
For Suruchi, the turnaround was especially striking after her difficult individual qualification. “Maybe that was not our day. And maybe today was,” she said after the victory. She also credited coach Samresh Jung for helping the pair reset mentally after their individual disappointments.

Kamaljeet described the medal as a major relief after fearing his first Asian Games could end without a podium finish. “I got a second chance, and I wanted to make the most of it,” he said after being brought into the mixed-team combination.
The result also gave India’s shooting contingent its first gold of Aichi-Nagoya 2026 after several near-misses earlier in the competition. For Suruchi and Kamaljeet, however, the medal carried an additional meaning: a difficult individual campaign was followed by a performance that rewrote the Asian record books.
Their 484.6 not only delivered India another Asian Games gold but also showed how quickly fortunes can change in shooting when precision, composure and the right partnership come together.
