Arshad Nadeem World Athletics Ultimate Championship Campaign Ends in Fifth

Pakistan鈥檚 Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem finished fifth in the men鈥檚 javelin at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest. His best throw of 81.49m came on his third attempt and was his season-best mark.

Nadeem opened with 74.42m before improving to 79.66m on his second attempt. However, the 81.49m effort was not enough to place him among the top four, meaning his competition ended after three throws under the event’s format.

Sri Lanka鈥檚 Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the javelin title with a 91.09m throw. Grenada鈥檚 Anderson Peters finished second with 86.18m, while Germany鈥檚 Julian Weber claimed bronze with 85.89m. Trinidad and Tobago鈥檚 Keshorn Walcott finished fourth at 82.41m.

Arshad Nadeem World Athletics Ultimate Championship Result Adds to Difficult Season

The fifth-place finish continues a challenging 2026 campaign for Nadeem. His 81.49m in Budapest was his season best, but it remains well below his 92.97m Olympic record from Paris 2024, when he won Pakistan鈥檚 first individual Olympic athletics gold.

He also endured a disappointing Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow, where he failed to reach the final round after throwing 77.41m. The Budapest performance therefore offers some improvement in distance, even though it did not result in a medal

Arshad Nadeem World Athletics Ultimate Championship Highlights Season Progress

Nadeem鈥檚 81.49m remains his best throw of 2026, although it is well short of the 92.97m Olympic record with which he won gold at Paris 2024.

The result gives Nadeem valuable competition ahead of the Asian Games, where he will aim to return to his best form and challenge for the javelin title.

Nadeem鈥檚 fifth-place finish came in a competition featuring a new championship format, where athletes needed to finish in the top four after the opening rounds to continue. His 81.49m throw showed signs of progress, but he could not produce the big-distance effort required to challenge the medal contenders. For the Paris 2024 champion, the result will be another reference point as he prepares for the Asian Games, where he will look to regain the consistency and distance that made him one of the world鈥檚 leading javelin throwers.

With the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya approaching, Nadeem will now look to build on his season-best performance and rediscover his best form.
