Sindhu, Lakshya Exit Thailand Open; Satwik-Chirag Keep India’s Hopes Alive

India’s campaign at the Thailand Open witnessed contrasting emotions as singles stars PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen bowed out of the tournament, while the men’s doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty marched into the semifinals.

Sindhu’s exit once again highlighted the inconsistency that has troubled her comeback phase over the past season. Despite flashes of aggression and experience, the former world champion struggled to maintain momentum during crucial stretches of the match.

The two-time Olympic medallist has shown signs of improvement physically after injury setbacks, but her ability to sustain intensity against top-ranked opponents remains under scrutiny. Experts believe Sindhu is still searching for rhythm and tactical sharpness as the new Olympic cycle gathers pace.

Lakshya Sen’s defeat carried similar frustration. The young Indian shuttler displayed moments of brilliance but failed to convert key opportunities under pressure. His attacking game remains among the most exciting in world badminton, yet inconsistency during long rallies and finishing phases continues to affect results against elite opponents.

In contrast, Satwik and Chirag once again demonstrated why they remain India’s strongest medal prospects in doubles badminton. Their aggressive net play, quick transitions, and powerful smashes overwhelmed opponents as the pair comfortably advanced further in the tournament.

The duo’s growing consistency on the international circuit has transformed India’s doubles reputation globally. For years, Indian badminton depended largely on singles stars, but Satwik and Chirag have successfully changed that narrative by competing regularly among the world’s elite pairs.

With major tournaments approaching, their form offers significant encouragement for Indian badminton fans hoping for sustained international success beyond singles competition.
