7-Year-Old Shreyanshi Jain Makes India Proud at FIDE World Cadets 2026

Vrnjačka Banja : At just seven years old, Shreyanshi Jain stunned the global chess world with a powerful performance at the FIDE World Cadets Championship 2026, bringing home Gold and Bronze medals in the Under-8 Girls category — an extraordinary accomplishment at one of the most competitive youth chess platforms in the world.

Gold in Blitz Solving — A Test of Speed and Brilliance

Shreyanshi crowned herself World Champion in the Blitz Solving Competition, a highly demanding format where players must solve complex chess positions under time pressure. She solved 7 out of 12 difficult positions with clarity and speed, showcasing deep calculation and instinct rarely seen at this age.

“Chess solving is not something you prepare for at the last minute. Shreyanshi’s gold shows that her foundation is strong enough to hold under a completely different kind of competitive pressure.”

— Abhijit Hatkar, Founder of Upstep Academy of Chess

Bronze in Rapid — Beating the Odds

Not stopping there, Shreyanshi also clinched the Bronze medal in the Rapid event, scoring 8 out of 11 points, despite being seeded 9th at the start. Her performance against older and higher-ranked peers earned her a significant +56 Elo rating points, underlining her rapid rise in world youth chess.

Journey from Jaipur to the World Stage

Shreyanshi began playing chess at the age of five and a half by observing her elder sister’s online lessons. Today, she trains at the Upstep Academy of Chess in Mumbai, where her training focuses on conceptual clarity, decision-making, and competitive temperament rather than rote learning.

“At this age, it is never easy for a child to cope with long hours of training, continuous tournaments, and mental pressure. What stands out in Shreyanshi is her composure and clarity under pressure.”

— Pankit Mota, Coach and Performance Head, Upstep Academy

A Trail of Perfection in India

  • Her World Cadets triumph adds to an already remarkable résumé:
  • National Under-7 Girls Champion – perfect 9/9 score
  • National Schools Under-7 Girls Champion – perfect 9/9
  • Rajasthan State Under-7 and Under-9 Champion – perfect scores in both in 2025

Shreyanshi also represented India at the Asian Schools Chess Championship, where she won Gold (Rapid), Silver (Classical) and Bronze (Blitz) — becoming the only Indian player to win medals across all three formats at the same event.

Behind the Medal

This journey has been as much about courage as talent. With initial hesitation from her family about overseas travel, it was the encouragement from her coaches that helped her compete in Serbia — a decision that resulted in one of the most inspiring performances in Indian youth chess this year.
