NEW DELHI: Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has urged Indian lacrosse players to set their sights firmly on qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, stressing that recent international success should serve as a stepping stone toward bigger goals on the global stage.
Speaking while felicitating the Indian men’s and women’s teams for their impressive performances at the Asian Lacrosse Games, the minister highlighted that the country now has a strong opportunity to establish itself in the sport, especially with lacrosse set to feature in the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Mandaviya encouraged the athletes to maintain their momentum, emphasising the need for consistent training, improved infrastructure, and a long-term vision aimed at Olympic qualification. He noted that the recent gold medal wins have boosted India’s confidence and visibility in the sport, but sustained effort will be key to competing against top global teams.
India’s strong showing at the continental level, including twin gold medals at the Asian Lacrosse Games earlier this year, has significantly strengthened its position in the Olympic qualification pathway. With structured preparation and continued support, the national teams are now being seen as serious contenders to make it to Los Angeles 2028.
