Can Indonesia Rise Without Ginting?

Bangkok, Thailand : The Princess Sirivannavari Thailand Masters 2026 – part of the BWF World Tour Super 300 event taking place at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok until 1 February – is already shaping up into a thrilling showdown of grit, youth and unexpected triumphs.

Big Names, Tough Draws

The defending narrative coming into the tournament posed questions: Could Indonesia remain a force without its seasoned stars? Sadly, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and top mixed doubles pair Jafar Hidayatullah / Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu were forced to withdraw due to ongoing injuries from Indonesia Masters earlier this month.

“This decision was made to protect the athletes’ long-term competitive future,” explained Indonesia’s coaching staff, emphasizing athlete welfare over risking further injury.

Rising Stars Step Up

Amid the absences, new Indonesian hopes are stepping into the spotlight:

Alwi Farhan clinched a gritty round of 32 victory over China’s Hu Zhe An, advancing to the Round of 16. Despite not being in peak physical form, Farhan remained composed under pressure — saying, “Alhamdulillah, it’s never easy against someone I’ve known since junior levels.”

The women’s doubles team Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma / Meilysa Trias Puspitasari also booked their Round of 16 spot with a convincing straight-game win over Indian opponents.

Mixed-nationality pair Hee Yong Kai Terry / Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja powered through the first round with authority, signaling that strategic partnerships can spark surprise results.

Stats To Watch

Thailand continues to be a powerhouse at this event, having produced champions in nearly every edition except 2020 — making the home favourites the most successful nation in tournament history.

Throughout the World Tour this week, players have shared candid insights. In a recent roundup of comments, competitors emphasized resilience and the ongoing quest to break into the sport’s upper tiers, highlighting the competitive depth on display in each match.
