Doha, Qatar:India’s growing stature in world chess was once again underlined as Arjun Erigaisi and Koneru Humpy returned with bronze medals from the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, held in Doha.

According to a report by Sportstar, Erigaisi delivered a memorable campaign in the open rapid and blitz events, displaying remarkable consistency against an elite global field. His aggressive yet controlled approach helped him finish on the podium, reinforcing his status as one of India’s brightest young stars on the world stage.

In the women’s section, Koneru Humpy continued her reputation as a big-tournament performer. The former world rapid champion secured bronze in the women’s rapid championship, finishing on the same points as the top contenders before being separated by tie-breaks, as reported by Sportstar. Her result marked another significant addition to an already decorated international career.

The championships were dominated by reigning stars, but India’s double podium finish stood out as a major positive. Erigaisi’s medal, in particular, was seen as a sign of India’s next generation confidently stepping into the global spotlight.

As Sportstar noted, the performances of Erigaisi and Humpy highlighted India’s depth in both open and women’s chess, reaffirming the country’s position as a rising powerhouse in the faster formats of the game.
